What Is an Apostille?

An Apostille is used when a document will be submitted in a country that is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention.

Once an Apostille has been issued by the appropriate authority in Canada or the United States, the document is generally accepted in another member country without additional legalization by an embassy or consulate.

Authentication

If your document will be used in a country that is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, it will generally require Authentication and, in some cases, Consular Legalization before it can be accepted for official use.

Depending on the destination country, your document may first need to be authenticated by the appropriate authority in Canada or the United States, followed by legalization by the relevant embassy or consulate.

What Is an Apostille?
